My butt hurts tonight from sitting through three basketball games on Monmouth Academy bleachers. It was self inflicted as my daughter was only in one game, I sat through the other two strictly because I wanted to. The boys JV game was really good, when we arrived they were ahead by a small margin, then Monmouth caught up and went ahead, then we caught up and tied... eventually Monmouth won by a point or so... it was a fun game to watch.
The girls' game was not as exciting to watch, they lost by a significant margin. They always look so much better than the score reflects. According the scores each game, the girls always lose by a lot, but to watch them, they are giving each team a good run for their money. Our biggest issue is not putting the ball in the basket, we get good plays and run the ball well enough, just when the shot comes... it misses and the other team seems to be able to sink it with their eyes closed and one arm behind their back.... if we started making the shots we take... we would be beating these teams. Someday, it will all just fall into to place for them... one of these days.... but I really admire the way our girls go out there, time and time again and give their all... they play hard down to the last second of the game regardless of the score... true players all the way!
The boys' varsity game was as thrilling as the JV game... only with a different result! They won! I think the ball was turned over about 6 times in the last fifteen seconds of the game... not exaggerating. The final score was very close... intentional foul penalty shots made the difference in the last second of the game. A real nail bitter! I hope the paper writes about the win for Winthrop... they have only had 2 now. They, like the girls, seem to miss their shots, but are just as good as the teams they lose to, just need to sink those baskets!
