GRRRR

So frustrated and sick of feeling completely disregarded at dialysis!  Our new televisions came at the cost of all our usual programming and TV guide.  Our old systems had regular channels on the Direct TV guide.  The channels matched what I had at home.  There were, of course, no movie channels or premium paid channels,  but we got the basic channels, locals, all the major cable channels,  about 70 or so.  With the new TVs, somehow we lost most of these.  There is no longer a guide, so you can't tell what is on anyway, and now all the channels are mixed up and in crazy order.  For example:  USA is channel 24 and Channel 13 is 27.  Makes no sense, it is still Direct TV that provides the channels but now they are few and screwed up.  At first we were given a certain set of channels...  someone must have complained about a favorite going away,  cause Allen decided to switch up what we get (not get back what we had!)  So they got rid of one of the ONLY channels that has anything on after 11 PM.... Nick At Nite.    I have watched Nick At Nite for the last 30 years and love having silly sitcoms on in the middle of the night when I can't sleep.  It has been replaced with the Outdoor channel, cause that is a friggen essential channel!  Also we now haw have 4 ESPN channels, NESN AND GOLF....   Outdoor, Food Network, Weather Channel, Discovery and more channels that are ALL geared towards OLD PEOPLE and MEN and more specifically OLD MEN.  Now I realize there are a lot of old men at dialysis, however not all of us are and it would be nice to be acknowledged now and again.

Until next time... write on!

Kittery!

So, I tried really hard to sleep at dialysis Sunday night in anticipation of going to Kittery with friends on today.   Friends of friends from Connecticut and Rhode Island met us in Kittery for a day of shopping and gabbing...   At first I questioned if I should even be going, I haven't felt great lately and I have been having bouts of dizziness and numbness in my hand and feet.  Nobody is quite sure why this is happening to me, but it comes and goes.   I got up, debating if I should go, but Linda and Teresa showed up on my door step with Dt. Dr. Pepper and egg sandwiches...  so I pulled it together and we left...  late, but we were on the road buy 9:30AM.

We got to Kittery around 11:30 after going around the turn about in Kittery a few extra turns for good measure,  did I mention I hate the exit to Kittery?   Any way,  we got there and located Anne and Maggie in the Children's Place.   Debi and Addy got there around the same time after dropping the teens off at Funtown and doing a little shopping else where.   Linda and I watched the others shop for their little ones in the Children's Place, fun, but not really missing having the little ones...  other people's little ones are entertaining enough.

Next stop was Dress Barn Woman to look at the bargains and poke fun at some of the styles...  we all tried on a few things and had a great time trying to get each other to spend money...  a few purchases were made,  Not really sure what Debi did with herself during this time  :)   I then ran into Brookstone outlet, one of my favorite places to look around...    I ended up buying myself a leather (read -brown vinyl) I-Pad case with a blue tooth Keyboard....  I have wanted a keyboard case for along time, but kept seeing them at around 80bucks...  with a coupon, I got one for 28 dollars...  I was very pleased...  even if I get nothing else -the trip was worth it!

The next debate was about lunch...  surprising the outlet area of Kittery has very few choices when it comes to eateries.  Without leaving the main strip...  there is Weathervane (sea food focused and expensive and slow)  Burger King, McDonalds, and a Crab Shack.  There is also a Subway with no real area to sit down....  We decided that we did not want to sit down to a meal for over an hour,  so Weathervane was out, (yeah, I DO NOT do sea food!)   and none of us wanted Burger King or McDonalds...so we settled on grabbing stuff at Subway and finding a place to land to eat it...  we ended up mainly on benches outside of Dexter Shoes... I laid on the lawn... the shade was lovely and it felt great to lie down and relax for a bit.

After lunch we all went into a few of the shops in the small mall were at... Rue 21, Cold Water Creek, Hanes, and a couple of shoe stores...  We managed to wander over to the Corelle store eventually and I bought a few replacement plates in my pattern and some smaller plates with the deep dish design (LOVE these for the sloppier meals!)  I also managed to get a couple oven mitts in my Corelle pattern...  still found no lasagna pan in the desired dimensions...   I also went into Pro Cook and got a couple more trivets...

We landed back over at the original mall, to look in the other Hanes store, and few others we missed the first time around...  we said our goodbyes to Teresa, who left with Anne and Maggie as they headed back to RI and CT.   Debi left with Addy to go back to find the Teens at Funtown...   Just before we said our goodbyes, it started to pour...  really pour!  Along with some thunder and lightening, she had to go and rescue the teens, getting soaked in Saco.   Linda and I checked out a few more stores after the other departed...  specifically Wilson's Leather...  another favorite of mine to at least check out...  nothing called to me today though....  all too pricey, but you never know, I have found treasure there in the past.

We hit the road around 5PM and decided to drop into Portland on our way home.  I needed to run into Target for dog food and we treated ourselves to supper at the Home town Buffet...  (decent, cheap and quick)  It was a nice time to sit and relax after a long day or driving and running around shopping.  :)   We got back to town near 8PM...  A good day, considering I wasn't sure I was up to going at all....

Until next time...  write on!

Girl Scouts' End of Year

Interesting day today, we had the end of year party for our Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts.  We took them to the YMCA for swimming and then had a pizza party and awards.  It was lots of fun.  Kendra, Doris and I met at the YMCA and we were given the party room off the family pool.  It was about 100 degrees and humid in there.  The window had a sign that stated it was climate controlled room and the window could not be opened....  we almost died.   The girls could not have cared less...  they all were excited and headed into the pool.  We had two lifeguards and the kids swam and played for the first hour.   It was strange, the YMCA closed at 2pm and we had the whole place to ourselves, and the front doors were locked, I had to let parents in after 2.    Ken and I headed out at 2:30 to pick up pizza from Al's pizza.  We decided, because of the horrible climate of the party room, to hold the second half of our party outside by the playground.  So we had pizza, chips and juice by the playground.  The girls ran around and climbed, swang and slid all over the place and had a great time.  We called them all together and handed out the year end awards and patches and pins as well as had our new Juniors walk across the playground bridge and slide into their role as Juniors.  Our Juniors stood at the bottom of the slide and received them...  it wasn't fancy, but it worked and the girls all had a great time.   :)

Me and My fishes...

Craft night tonight was a lot of fun....    I decided to completely unplug after spending recent craft nights on the computer writing, or trying to write.  I haven't really done a craft in months so I made it a priority to find something to do this month.  I found some color by numbers at AC Moore recently, though I am always on the look out for more and better ones.  I find them fun, but get annoyed when the lines can be seen through the color on the end product.  I bought a salt water fish design and a whales design.   I also found two sketch by number kits, which I have yet to open...  the look interesting though.   I decided to work on the salt water fish...  It has some brightly colored fish and looked interesting.  I get annoyed too, when the picture I have to color, with lines and numbers, does not match what is on the front of the package.  The front of the package is beautiful and I want mine to look that way when complete.   Unfortunately, the lines are so different,  even if I complete it flawlessly, it will not match the picture,  oh well, it kept me busy Friday night.
We actually called it a night early for us, cause most of us had plans for the next day, but it was a fun night.  I enjoyed relaxing and coloring and gabbing...  I need to remember to unplug more often and find other things to do besides write and read smut.  (that is read smut, I write stuff that isn't smut, most of the time)  I am really looking forward to continuing to work on my project next month when we meet again.  I am hoping everyone will show up again next month and the weather will allow us to enjoy our evening and not melt in the fellowship hall at the church.

Now You See Me! (no spoilers)

I wasn't sure what to expect when my daughter wanted to go see "Now You See Me" in theaters.  I had not really seen much about it, other than some fairly vague ads indicating they did a heist during a magic show;(not a spoiler all the ads show that)  I was pleasantly surprised.  We ended up going to Lewiston because the showtimes in Augusta were not to our liking.  Lewiston is cheaper anyway.  It reminded me a bit of the Ocean's movies.  It had a similar style, showing us what we think we see and then going back and breaking down what actually happened.  It was very interesting and though somewhat predictable, had some interesting twists that kept you wondering until the end.  It was enjoyable and had a nice blend of magic, action and romance.  Ashleigh then got to drive us home from Lewiston at midnight, so she had a good time too!

Memorial Day

Memorial Day  -  After a rainy yucky Saturday and Sunday, we got lucky and Memorial day itself was quite nice.  I got home from dialysis at the usual 5 am and instead of going straight to sleep (makes too much sense) I had to watch an old episode of NCIS LA...  so I slept from about 6 until 8:30.   I reluctantly got up and got ready for the parade.  Tay was overnight at Ang's and Ashleigh was overnight at Debi's so it was a quiet house as we got ready.  I sent Scott to get Taylor and then I took her to the meeting site.  I was the first adult from our Girl Scout Troop there.  There were about 5 girls there when I arrived.  My other adult volunteers showed up within minutes and I left Doris with about 8 girls and headed down to get a spot on Main St. for the parade.
I was really surprised that it was as easy as it was to get a prime spot in front of the businesses on Main St.  In past years these spots would have been taken early...  but not this year.  I walked across the street to the spot my husband had found and sat in our lawn chairs on the side of the road in front of his car.   There was no crowd at all.  As it got closer to 10AM (parade start time) a few more people meandered about.   They made introductions from the stage and slowly the parade could be heard coming down the hill.   Most years the Scouts are right behind the Legion in the beginning of the parade, this year the band somehow ended up in front of the Scouts.  This made it more difficult for the Scouts to be in position as the speeches began.

Every year, for the past few,  the Girl Scouts have read Red Skelton's Pledge of Allegiance speech from the forties.  This year Sam and Stephanie (fourth and fifth grade) read the speech for the town.  They were introduced and stood on stage behind the podium.  Unfortunately, both girls are quite short and could not exactly be seen because of the podium.  They could be heard though, thanks to the speakers and microphones.  They both did a very nice job.  The speech is a two person explanation of the Pledge of Allegiance -  the first speaker basically says the pledge and the second speaker explains each part.  I like the speech, but I really wish we could do something different each year,  or a rotation of different speeches.  We have done this exact same speech every year since 2006

They were then asked to bring the wireless microphone over to the cemetery for the bugle and drum to be heard.  Note to self...   turn OFF mic before sending little girls a half mile down the road with said Mic.   Needless to say, the mic had to be unhooked from the speaker system as the girls skipped down the road with it, oblivious to the LOUD hideous noises it was creating...  but it was all good...  the mic was re hooked in for the bugle and drums to play their tributes and the girls returned in good spirits.

The speeches were good,  hard to hear and too long for the audience to stand through, but interesting, for those of us paying any attention.  Eventually the parade continued to Norcross Point and the chaos of locating the kids and their parents was fun as usual.

Overall it was a success,  the girls who marched had a good time and the girls that spoke did a wonderful job...

Epic!

So Ashleigh and I went to see Epic tonight.  We went to a 3D showing because we wanted to go to the latest possible show.  It ended up being a private showing.  Apparently we were the only people who wanted to see a 3D child's movie at 9:40 at night.

The previews were fun...  lots of cool things coming out in the near future...  including Despicable Me 2 -  it looks as cute as the first.  Smurf 2 - um...  I love Smurfs, but too smurfin much smurf and I just want to Smurf all over everything - but Neil Patrick Harris might pull it off.     Monster University - again, this looks ALMOST as good as the first; not quite as cute, but maybe funnier.  Rio 2 - beautiful animation, never saw the first one, probably won't see this one, but I really admire the scenery.  Finally the strangest offering...  about a snail that wants to be a race car.  Turbo.  It looks really weird and I am sure little boys and some little girls will love it, but seriously, a SNAIL that wants to be a race car?

Finally the movie started...  it was.... well...  Epic.   I liked the movie more than I expected to.  I wanted to see it, but really knew very little about it.  The animation was lovely.  The 3D effect was cool, but I think the movie would have been just as good, though maybe not quite as beautiful, in 2D.   The action was good and there was a touch of romance.  This could have easily been a movie done with real people and a lot of CGI and would probably be getting a lot more blockbuster fanfare,  but it is instead an animated movie and written off by most as a kid's movie.

This movie combines the battle of good vs. evil,  the struggles of the environment, an estranged father/daughter relationship, young love, true love, and lots of funny moments.  It is obviously kid friendly, but also interesting and held my attention as well.  Not sure the very young wouldn't be a little overwhelmed by the battles between the guardians of the forest and the evil army that are out to destroy it, but they will love the silly dog and the beautiful flower people and talking bugs....

SO Hard!!!!

Writing....   why is it so hard to find something to say????   I am an opinionated individual,  I have my own soap box and find myself up on it every now and again, but when it comes to writing a blog....  crickets.

My goal is to write every couple of days...  unfortunately, a week goes by before it occurs to me that I haven't written anything.  Is there something folks out there in cyber space would like me to write about?  I called this a boring blog so expectations would be low, and so far it has lived up to its name.  I write about things I do, things I see,  but lately I haven't gone anywhere or seen anything.  B O R I N G!   :)   Guess this blog has found its purpose.   Think of it as a sleep aid.   Read my blog late at night with the lights down low and in no time at all...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...........

:) I'm free!

So,  I got to dialysis and FINALLY the new TVs that were promised to us months ago, we were told would be installed weeks ago, told again days ago, were actually installed.  They are smaller than what we had and they are cute.  White casing and a built in remote on the side of the HD screen.   One disappointing feature,  there are a couple, is that they chose to change the channel provider as well.  We have always had touch screen TVs with Direct TV, games, music and internet.   (The internet feature was useless because no Java, No flash and no mouse in addition to an over protective web nanny)  But the TVs were cool (when they worked properly)  The new system is just TV, no more games which a LOT of the older folks really liked.  They also no longer appear to be Direct TV, in fact I cannot tell what provider these TVs are showing.   The channel line-up is like nothing I have seen locally and no longer have any sort of guide to tell us what is on.  We did get a poorly drafted photocopied page telling us which channel was where.  For example CBS is now channel 27 and USA is 24 and MTV is 2...  sound familiar to anyone?  I thought not.

Interesting feature in these little TVs is there are SD and USB slots on the side.  I plan to get a sampling of movie files onto both formats and try my luck watching a moving from file on the TV,  that could be cool.

One VERY interesting thing happened too....  the internet refused to work.  I figure that when the brilliant men who installed all the new wiring for the TVs were out back, they somehow frigged up the network that patients are allowed to access while on dialysis.  I almost freaked...  anxiety levels shoot through the roof when I think I without my computer for the night, even if the web nanny is an abusive strict bitch...   So,  in desperation,  I started trying other networks (i get about 6 here)  One,  labeled from a neighboring business/guest claimed to be unsecure....  but required a password,  all the others are secured and required network security passcodes.  I started guessing at passwrds and passcodes....  I should totally be a hacker...  cause I nailed one and now I have (until I get caught I guess)  NANNY FREE INTERNET    wooo hooo!

I can now access THIS BLOG, Netflix, Youtube, CBS,  and host of other things that web nanny always though it had to save me from....   So,  I am a happy camper, even if the new TVs do kind of suck.   :)

Until next time... write on!

Star Trek - no spoilers

Hubby and I went to see the new Star Trek...   yes, it is true,  I could look at Chris Pine for a few hours in just about ANYTHING!  That said, I still think this is a good movie, on its own, even without the Chris Pine factor!  I try not to give anything away in these quick reviews, so I can't say much...  but I felt it was a better movie from start to finish than the first reboot movie...   Keep in mind,  I am not a huge trekie and I am viewing these movies fresh, with no absolute passion for the first run.   (I watched my fair share of TNG and Voyager, but that is it)  so I see these as new ground.  I do think it was brilliant to alter the universe (in the first one,  no spoiler here) so all the die hard Trekies out there can be shut up with a simple...  it all changed so bugger off.  In fairness,  my husband said he thought the action sequences were a bit too much at times, (most guys love that stuff) but I wasn't bothered by it,  I guess I just accept that the movies are all kind of over-blown now.    It got 2 thumbs up from me - for Chris Pine   It got 2 thumbs up from the hubby,  but mostly because Alice Eve ends up in her underwear (ok, small spoiler)

Prompted...

Quite a while ago I had asked friends for writing prompts one night and I got quite a few.  I wrote this, using most of them...  I just came upon it...  thought I would share... the prompts I used are in bold.

At one point I was sure I would never go down that road, but when I did... it didn’t lead to where I had assumed it would.  Instead, it brought me here.  Where “here” was, I had no idea.  I walked along the cobblestone street, my aching feet screaming for real pavement.  The buildings that lined the street were unfamiliar and even though they looked older in style, they were fresher and newer looking than it seemed they should be.  There were no people around, as far as I could see, no other people anywhere.  I continued walking straight down the street; I was on a mission, though I didn’t exactly know what that mission was.  When the street  ended at the door of a stone cottage, I went inside.

The lighting was poor and I could barely see anything.  Going from the bright sunlight to the dimly lit interior left me blind for the moment.  As my vision slowly began to return, I saw it.  It looked like a headless pigeon, but it was actually a small hen of some sort, bent down, its head tucked under its wing.  This was the first sign of any life I had seen since I had followed the old dirt road and stumbled down the hill and onto the cobblestones that led me here.

I approached the hen slowly, as not to startle it.  I reached out my hand to touch the small creature and she brought her head around, out from under her wing, and I knew then, this was no hen.  She had a head like a lizard, no a dragon! Which was ridiculous I told myself.  This must be some kind of rare bird.   I could tell by the look in her eyes that she would not hurt me; I gently touched her back and the feathers were soft and downy.  Her eyes begged me to help her somehow, but I wasn’t really sure how I could be of any help at all.
Just then, I heard a noise from the distance.  It was a strange humming sound, like a helicopter, but lower and somehow scarier.  I gently picked up the weird bird and held her close to my body.  She snuggled in close and seemed to be comfortable in my arms.  I ran for the back door of the cottage and saw that the cobblestone street continued as far as the eye could see.  I began to run away from the cottage and away from the humming noise that grew louder and louder.  I kept running, it wasn’t easy and my ankles ached from the unevenness of the cobblestones.  My new friend made it a little easier for me, as she didn’t struggle or try to get away; she seemed to know that I was helping.  I decided to call her Evey.

Evey and I continued down that road and away from the cottage for what must have been several miles.  The cottage was the last of the buildings.  For a long while the road was edged by open fields of tall grass and wildflowers.  I may have enjoyed the sight if I weren’t so concerned about whatever it was making the humming noise that seemed to follow us.  Eventually the meadows gave way to trees.  At this point, we were deep into the forest, still on the cobblestone street, or rather, path now.  At first the forest was bright and green with moss, slowly, as we went deeper and deeper into the forest, it got darker and trees became larger and larger.  The trees were bigger than any trees I had seen before, like the ones you read about, where highways go through them, but nothing like the trees I was used to.  My arms were tired from holding Evey and my legs were about to fall off.  I desperately needed a rest.  The humming sound had faded and I felt it was safe to stop.  I stepped off the path and climb up onto a mossy tree root, it was about 3 feet high and 2 feet wide.  I placed Evey down next to me and she stretched.  She looked into my eyes and I instantly knew she was hungry and that she needed to hunt.  I nodded and she flew off the root and wandered off into the woods.

I don’t know how I knew... but I knew she would be back when she finished hunting, and that she wanted me to remain here, where I would be safe.  I must have dozed off, because the next thing I knew, Evey was back, with dinner.  She had returned with what looked like white carrots and leafy greens and a rabbit.  She held it all wrapped in a cloth that she held in her mouth.  I climbed down off the mossy root and found a spot to try and build a fire in the dirt.  I gathered pine needles, dried moss and a few sticks, if only I had matches.  I had never been successful at rubbing sticks together to start a fire, I had no hope of that working now.   As I piled my materials in the center of the stone circle that I made, I had no idea how I planned to actually make a fire.  Evey waddled over to me, cocked her head and looked into my eyes.  She blinked her big round black eyes at me and then turned to my pile of kindling.  It looked like she was going to throw up, she coughed and gagged and then...  she belched and line of blue fire shot from her mouth.  The sticks and pine needles went up in flames instantly and Evey waddled away.  Any doubt I had about dragons being real went up in flames as well.

I cooked the rabbit and the carrot-like vegetables over the flame and added a few logs to keep the fire going into the night.  I wondered what the next day would bring and where I was going to go with Evey.  Hard to believe only a yesterday I was worrying about things like ruby red lipstick and high heels and what dress to wear to the social.  It all seemed so trivial now.  Food, shelter and surviving the night were what I had to think about for the moment.  We both ate like we had never seen food before.  The white carrots were sweeter than carrots and actually really delicious, the rabbit was harder for me to eat, but Evey had no problem there, even eating the innards with enthusiasm. The noises of the forest increased as the crescent moon got higher in the sky.  The stars were beautiful in the darkness, but the forest felt creepy.  Evey laid close to me on the mossy root and we both fell asleep.

I awoke while it was still dark, though the hint of morning light hung in the air, which was heavy with dew.  I sat up, trying hard not to disturb the tiny creature next to me.  Evey purred in her sleep and sounded so content, I carefully slide down off our perch and stretched my legs.  I walked a tiny ways down the past and crested the hill, and then I saw him.  There he was standing watching the sunrise over the horizon.  He was magnificent.  I am not sure he could have looked any better if an artist was sent down from heaven to sculpt a man out of marble.  His muscles rippled down his body and his hair blew in the gentle breeze.  He had no idea I was there, and he did not look like the type of man you wanted to startle, so I started to back away.

“You there!  You needn’t leave.” He said, without even turning around.  How he knew I was there, I have no idea. He turned around and began to walk towards me, “You have nothing to fear from me.”

I stopped where I stood and stared, I couldn’t help myself.  He was beautiful beyond words.  He was also very large, he stood over six feet tall and looked like he could lift an elephant.  He wore black leather pants and a utility bag that draped over one bare shoulder and across his body.  He had various tools and weapons hanging from the strap of the bag.  He looked like one of the barbarians from a book I had once read, only he was very real.

wish I had written more,  I am dying to know how it ends!

Short Story.... Brian

Found this....  I wrote it for a class assignment; it is fiction, but I have been in similar situations...  anyone with children has probably lived through this once or twice!

My heart jumped inside my chest, pounding.  He was gone.  I barely turned around.  The sounds of the crowd and the machines blended together and fell away, all I could hear was my heart BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.  My head was spinning.  Think.  Where would he go; the giant slide; maybe the carousel?  Slowly the noises around me came back into focus; the whirling of the giant motor next to me and the laughs and screams of the children on the Tilt-A-Whirl were almost deafening now.

Don’t panic.  I took a deep breath; it tasted of dust and smelled like French fries.  I started to run for the slide, he had really enjoyed the slide.  The line for the round up was in the way, I pushed through, running, I then tripped over a black hose.  I could taste the blood from my lip.  I didn’t even care about the dirt now covering the front of my shirt.  I got up and continued running.  Jumping the hoses and barely missing the side of the trash can, I turned a corner to the giant slide.

The slide was full of small children waiting in line, each with an old burlap sack about their shoulders.  The stairs to the top were steep; I looked up and saw that he was not there, nor in the line of squirming kids, no red jackets.  My heart raced once again, where could he be?    I looked around, no signs of him, no little boys in red.

I start to run once again, this time to the carousel.  I can see the horses, slowly moving up and down while happy music plays in the background; still no boy.   I turn to the little cars honking and buzzing as small boys play with the buttons and sound the sirens as they slowly turn a circle.  For an instant I think I have found him, but it is another boy, in a red baseball jacket.  I can taste the salty tears that have run down my cheek.  I didn’t even know I was crying.

Finally, I scream, “Brian, Brian!” as I continue to wander through the kiddie rides.  I can feel the looks from parents and children as I walk through desperate and covered in dirt.  Then, through all the laughter, screaming, and machines I hear a small voice.

“I in here sissy.”

“In where?” I yell back, to nowhere in particular.

“The bouncy” the small voice replies without worry.

I calmly walk to the little red bounce house in the shape of a chicken.  Brian’s little Diago sneakers are lying on the ground next to the bench.  I collapse against the side.  The plastic feels cool and soothing.  My head hurts.  My lip begins to pound.  I now realize that I have blood running down my chin.  He’s OK.  Everything is OK.  I am going to kill him.

First Contact

Today, while checking on the spring crops in the front (read lilac bushes by the road)  I encountered the wolf.   He eyed me with caution and I could hear my animals getting restless in the pen.  The wolf slowly followed me as I carefully examined the leaves, checking for parasites.  The crops in the left fields look good so I moved on, knowing the wolf was watching my every move.  I checked the orchard (the one crab apple tree in the middle)  It grows crooked and this year it seems to be making some odd choices, but the leaves are clear.   I see the wolf, now closer than ever before.  He is obviously curious about me, as I am about him.  Carefully, I knelt down, moisture seeping through my jeans.  I looked at the ground and spoke in a low even tone.  "Hello there, you're a good boy."  He came up slowly, circling me.  I felt his body bump my back, knocking me slightly off balance.  I regain my composure and speak again.  "Hey,  good boy, c'mere."   I now can hear my own animals pushing at the gate, I only pray it holds.   The wolf notices too, he moves away, back toward my animals.  I move away from the pens, hoping the wolf will follow.  I continue to speak to him, luring him with me.  I get out of the line of sight of the pen and kneel down again.  The wolf investigates me once again.  He sniffs at me, brushes by me again his his body.  This time I slowly hold out my hand, palm open and down.  He cautiously sniffs my offering.  He comes in even closer and a gently reach out, patting his fur.  He is so soft, wet from the rain.  My eyes look into his.  I pat him again.  He breaks our eye contact and jogs off, suddenly.  First contact was brief, but sweet.  I know there will be more - and I can't wait.

The usual Tuesday TIVA / DENSI review....

Wow,  both the TIVA and the DENSI were hard to watch.

First on NCIS...  Ziva feeling alone in Isreal...  ARGG....   we all wanted to Tony to go with her!  It could been him that she turned to, damn those writers!  I did like the way they showed her clearly distraught over Tony's reaction to her confession.  I also loved when he called her his best friend... so sweet.  I am hoping they play up the TIVA even more in the finale.   (SHHH,  don't tell the writers, but I love their Best Friend moments even if they never get together.)

Now,  the DENSI on the other hand...  that is about to heat up.   She was clearly bothered by the undercover op that Deeks was involved with.   It wasn't blatantly clear what happened between him and Monica so I am choosing to believe he was able to be a gentleman and skirt her advances (LALALALALALALA -I CAN'T HEAR YOU!)      Anyway...   he never likes being Max and was not himself through this whole episode.  The scene in the armory, (they have a lot of their best moments in the armory lately) was sooooo...   close.   You could just tell he wanted to say something more, but didn't.  That Hetty...  at least now Deeks and the audience know that Hetty is on team DENSI!

I am going live soon with a DENSI blog (I know TOTAL GEEKDOM HERE I COME!)  I am hoping to get some contributors to do some episodes for me.  It involves a complete breakdown of the episode scene by scene. (I have some done that I could show anyone interested)   The blog will also have what I call the DENSI Factor - rating it from 1 - 10 for its DENSI content.

Here is hoping next weeks finale is at least a 9!

Iron Man 3 - No spoilers...

So,  Last night I got to see Iron Man 3.  I have been waiting for it to come out and  -  It was worth the wait! Let me start by saying I am not a fan girl and have absolutely no loyalty to comic books or Stan Lee...  so I really could care less if the movie betrayed Iron Man comic number 53 or any such argument someone out there is waiting to pounce on me with...  (though I will take the comments :)  That being said  I LOVED the movie!   I think it was the best Iron Man yet!  The movie was fun, funny, and action packed.  It had some surprises, but it was still very much Iron Man and Tony Stark.  A lot of Tony Stark actually,  which was nice.     If you liked the others, even a little...  SEE THIS ONE!

The previews before this movie were like some kind of Nerdvana.... and totally HOT leads in just about everything they showed.   So really  Girly Nerdvana!  They previewed The Wolverine,  who couldn't look at Hugh Jackman???   Thor...  Need I say more???!!!   He makes Hugh Jackman look old and out of shape!   Then it was Star Trek...  those eyes!  I will watch that movie like a 1000 times just because of those eyes...  Also After Earth,  Will Smith looking cute as ever....  the only non Sci Fi movie -  The Hangover 3 - and I have a thing for Bradley Cooper,  so  it was still a good preview.

How many of these Marvel movies do they have to make before people remember to stay until the very end of the credits?  No disappointment here...  Stay...  see if you get it.  :)

May the 4th be with you....

Until next time... Write on!

Right Writing is the Only Right Way to Write

My writer's block may be coming to an end!  Not that I have been writing classic literature or anything, but it is getting better.  I have woken up the past few mornings with my brain writing scenes in my head.  It is mostly  fluff, but at least this head of mine is coming up with something again!  I even wrote a poem while driving the other day.  So nice to have the creative flow turned back on....  Now,  I really need to get into the habit of writing it all down.  I tell myself I will, then I wait, and then it just isn't as easy to capture it all as when it was fresh.  A lot of people say to keep a notebook with me, but I just don't write that way.  I need to keep my laptop on and ready to go.  I type creatively I guess...   notebooks are great for notes, but for my writing, I need the keyboard and screen to feel right.   I often wonder about all the gems I have lost over the years because I didn't get my lazy ass to a computer and capture the muse while it was spewing creativity all over the place.  I have chosen sleep many times, I have chosen to continue watching TV, or any number of other things.  I am going to try harder to write when my head is writing and capture whatever drabble comes forth.  I apologize now.

Until next time...  write on!

Hide and Seek

She shook in fear
And held very still
It took discipline
And all of her will

She hid from the others
And stayed out of sight
She hid all day
And into the night

No food or Water
No supplies at all
She stayed there though
Curled into a ball

She could not breath
No room to move
She was the best
That’s what she’d prove

Sadly for her
There was not enough air
In the old wooden cabinet
Under the stair

She finally died
Under that shelf
They didn’t kill her
She killed herself

She wasn’t too smart
She was kind of a freak
She took it too far
It’s just Hide and Seek

TIVA - DENSI update

NCIS:
I have to say the TIVA in this episode was so disappointing after last week's set up!  I am glad they didn't do too much damage with the car accident and I was surprised they got to Bodnar like they did, but very sad there was no follow up on the TIVA.   I have heard Michael Weatherly speak against too much TIVA, Cote on the other hand beams when she talks about Tony and the future of Tony and Ziva.  (If I was Michael's wife I think I would be wildly jealous of Cote)

NCIS LA:
The DENSI is this episode was fun and very physical but insignificant.  There was the usual banter and a wrestling match with a hotel bed as the backdrop, so that was fun.  Deeks and Kensi went undercover as newlyweds, but for no real reason, as they never interacted undercover with anyone but Nell and the bellhop.  When I heard that they were going back undercover as a couple I had high hopes for a great show,  but this really wasn't it.   Cute interactions, but I am still waiting for really good DENSI.  (Like in Wanted and Neighborhood Watch.)  Both Eric Christian Olsen and Daniella Ruah like the idea of more DENSI...  so that is good.

Spring Fling!

Today I started a Spring Fling.  Really it was my husband’s idea.  He thought it would be just the thing to spice up our happy home.  He may have been thinking that he would be the one to begin a fling, but I got the jump on him and started a fling of my own.  At first I was reluctant,  not sure that a fling was right for me, but once I got started… WOW!  I may have a fling every season!   I will be journaling my fling on occasion here in my boring blog (not that this fling is boring!)

Day one:  We went through the big upper cupboard and sorted all the lids and whatever bowls were in that area.  I flung all the Ziplock and Gladware lids that have long since lost their containers…   We matched all the Pyrex bowls to their lids and made a central hub of Tupperware lids so that when their bowl counterparts are found in the various other places that still need to be gone through, we will know where to go for the lid.

What a day!

Had a no so great day...  I woke with a start and a severe cramp in my knee.  Most people get a cramp in their side or in their calf, not me...  I get the tiny muscle on the right side of my right knee and it is amazing to me that one little muscle can cause such agony.  I jumped out of bed to walk it off and glanced at the clock... it said 1:40PM,  which in my bizarro world means just after 1.  I could not believe that I had slept the day away and still felt so tired and out of it.  I limped my way to the kitchen to get a drink and something salty (helps with the cramping) and I looked at the kitchen clock... it was 7:10AM.  That made SO much more sense - I only went to bed at 5:30AM, no wonder I was still tired!  I walked off the cramp for the next 20 minutes, drank a Dr. Pepper and then took 2 muscle relaxers and headed back to bed.  I barely remember my daughter telling me she was leaving for a friends...  and then I truly did wake up around 1 in the afternoon.  I have not been able to move my knee too much without it threatening to cramp again, so it has been a fairly stationary day.  I have used the time to watch old episodes of NCIS, Castle and NCIS LA.   I have done some writing (though not as much as I would like) and a lot of reading.   I never managed to get up to feed myself, after the early morning crackers, so I was happy when Scott made me a cheeseburger and carrots for supper! (one of my favorite meals)  Now I am just resting and trying not to move my leg the wrong way.

Product placement...

I really don't mind product placement in my shows.  In fact, 'Chuck' took product placement to new heights with their silly Subway sandwiches and car commercials within a scene... I found it entertaining.  I don't mind when Eric Beal whips out his brand new MS tablet and slowly attaches the keyboard and shows off the easy Windows8 interface.  The shiny new car that the guys on 'Hawaii 5-O' can't stop talking about...  entertains me.   I like to see real cereal boxes on the set of 'Big Bang,' and they they might as well have brand named soda on 'Two and Half Men'...   but,  if the show is going to be ripe with brand names and glowing reviews, why does it also have to be heavy on commercials?    I would actually prefer that they integrate their sponsor's products right into the programs and stop interrupting the show every ten minutes to show us another lame commercial.   This would also be beneficial to the companies that pay tons of money to be included in these shows.  Let's face it,  with our DVR's and internet viewing,  no one is watching commercials anymore.  They are simply forwarded over, or used as a bathroom or snack break.  If on the other hand, the deodorant was advertised while we watched Deeks take a quick shower and freshen up,  you can bet I will be paying attention and my husband would be wearing that brand by 5 o'clock the next afternoon.   I think the powers that be should consider it!

NCIS and NCIS LA - I cannot get enough!

OK,  When I said that tonight’s NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles would give me stuff to blog about….  I HAD NO IDEA!  Wow, just wow.

Before I begin…  for those of you who do not know  TIVA = Tony and Ziva and DENSI= Deeks and Kensi   -  I know, I am a hopeless shipper,  but what can I say…

I am going to talk about the relationship parts of both shows, there are some spoilers…  not too much revealed, but spoilers no less.  You have been warned!

NCIS

I had been hearing that the episode titled ‘Berlin’ would be full of the romantic tension they occasionally throw at us from Tony and Ziva -  and I heard right.   It started with the usual banter in the Bullpen…  but it moves to them in Berlin to find Bodnar.  First in the airplane…the hushed conversation about the case and their plan; there is something strangely intimate about it.  Then there is the scene with Tony’s obvious jealousy over Ziva’s “old friend” Adam.   Next they are in their hotel and Ziva lies down beside Tony on the bed and they talk…  to cute.   Now, let’s talk about the dance… ah the dance.  It was a cover for a bit, as she searched the room for K, but then, as she looked into his eyes – it was just the two of them.  Great moment!   The flashback to her dancing with her father was sweet and then “One day,  you will dance with a man who deserves your love”  back to present, Ziva staring deeply into Tony’s eyes….priceless.  Then the stupid bad guy makes his move…  but up until then it was wonderful.   Finally, they had the bad guy transferred to DC and are in the car heading back.  Ziva tells Tony about Orli and her Father and how she may not be the same person if not for what happened in her childhood. He tells her he needs to call Orli and thnk her.  Ziva just quietly looks at him, as he takes her hand and threads their fingers together…. So sweet.   But they can’t just give us a little TIVA - that we have waited so patiently for…  NO  they gave us some great TIVA then…  POW.   My head is still spinning from that one.  They will be dealing with this until the end of the season for sure.   I am not too worried though, haven’t heard anything about Michael Weatherly or Cote de Pablo leaving the show.  (though I did see somewhere that she has not renewed yet…)   I am hoping the writers give us a bit more TIVA as they recover, together.   This show has been on for 10 years…  we have been waiting 8 years for these two to get together…  it may be time for a little something.

NCIS Los Angeles

I was still reeling from NCIS when I began to watch NCIS LA.  The LA writers like to toy with us way more than the DC writers when it comes to the romantic tension.  They have some fun with it just about every week, some more than others. When I had heard that the NCIS episode was going to be TIVA heavy, I had not expected much in the way of DENSI this week.   I was so wrong.  NCIS LA was full of great DENSI moments!

It starts out in the Bullen with Sam asking Kensi to babysit so he can go to the Clipper’s game with G - Kensi looks so freaked…   but Deeks  jumps at the chance with, “we’ll do it!”  Kensi and Sam both turn him down…  Everyone gets on Kensi for hating kids…  Deeks looks truly disappointed.  They catch a case about a murdered drug lord in Mexico whose body is stolen out of the morgue.  Because of Navy involvement in the operation and the possibility of a leak, they are assigned to investigate the missing body.
Deeks and Kensi head to Mexico to meet with an informant who can give them some inside scoop on the case.  They are in a Mexican bar waiting to meet the drug agent who has the informant’s information -  Deeks and Kensi talk about kids again and she explains that she doesn't see wanting to bring kids into the world as it is right now.  Deeks once again offers to help her with the whole kids thing…  is it me, or do they have that conversation A LOT lately?  Their connection shows, but before he can give them all the info, he is killed and the shooters try to take the informant.  Kensi and Deeks escape out the back with the informant… a teenage singer.  The drive back to LA with the kid.  Some of the banter in the car seems a bit forced, but it was there to show Kensi and Deeks “parenting.”   The boy, Javier, asks for a lawyer…  Kensi says no and he asks why not and she pulls the “Cause I said so!” line right out of my mother’s playbook.  Deeks calls her on it and they begin to bicker.  Javier asks why they are fighting and they say, in unison, “we’re not arguing, we’re having a discussion.”  Awe… they will make such adorable parents.  (Congrats to Eris Christian Olsen, who will be a REAL parent by late summer!)  They take Javier back to the boat shed and discuss his options,  witness protection, or help them put the big boss away.  Both Deeks and Kensi reveal a bit of their daddy issues to Javier who is torn about helping them because the drug cartel boss they are after is like a father to him.   Deeks and Kensi have another moment in the boat shed observation room, while talking about Javier’s choices.  Next they are driving Javier, supposedly to his WITSEC location when they are pinned down by gunmen and Javier escapes into the arms of his drug cartel boss.  This turns out to be all part of their plan, Javier is wired and they track his location to find the drug boss.   Deeks and Kensi rescue the kid in a shoot-out and the boss is gunned down in front of the boy.  He has strong feelings as he watches his father figure die.   Kensi comforts him while Deeks looks on, seeing that Kens has a maternal instincts after all.  Back at OSP, Kensi tells Sam she will babysit his kids for him on the condition that Deeks can help her.  Deeks teases her that she wants to play house with him,  she never denies it.

I especially loved when Deeks just looks at her and says  “This? Changes everything”  - both times.

Why are there not more Tuesdays?

BTW,  I thrive on COMMENTS….  J  I am a needy writer…

Query?

So,  I am not sure which is worse...  the waiting game or flat out rejection.  I have experienced both now and I have to say...  I really can't tell which one I prefer.

The waiting game is hard... never knowing, always wondering if today will be the day...  but at the same time you can tell yourself that they just haven't gotten to it yet, or maybe they never received it...  or...  something that doesn't mean you have to face the fact that they didn't want what you have to offer...

The rejection notice at least lets you stop waiting and waiting and wondering...  but then...  you stop wondering and you just know...   they do not want what you have to offer.    Both ways kind of suck.  I will recover, I will go on and continue to submit until I have exhausted the list of literary agents... and then I will start in on the publishers.   I promise, I won't give up easily.   Still not sure what I prefer though....

Until next time... write on!

Web nanny sucks!

I hate the fact that I cannot reach my blog from dialysis.   I can bring it up to read, but not to post or edit or even track.  Which means I have to write it in Word and then copy it over at another time…  poor me  ;(   I do love that I can change the stamp on the post to the time and date of when I wrote it and not be stuck with the time and date that I actually have to post it.

There are actually a lot of things that I cannot view while on the internet at dialysis…  things that are interesting and entertaining and that I do not need the 'web nanny’ to protect me from.  Anything with streaming video is a big one for me.   I am stuck, sitting in a chair in a big boring room and I cannot even watch a stupid cat video someone shared on Facebook.   Hulu?  Forget it…   No Netflix or Direct TV to pass the time either… nothing. (yes, I do have a TV, but my DVR has me spoiled and I don’t like watching commercials.)

I believe that the block is there to prevent anyone using the network to visit inappropriate sights and stream porn in the dialysis center.  That makes sense, since there are children here…  no wait…  no children AT ALL.  So who are they trying to save?  Maybe they’re afraid that the staff will watch internet porn all shift and neglect us.  Really?  I am supposed to trust these people with my life, but they cannot be trusted to stay off the internet porn?     I also cannot go to FB without a secure connection and it blocks most blog pages,   hobby sites and a lot more.  What I find most interesting about the block of all things cool is that I can go to fanfiction.org;  which, in reality, is the biggest distributer of text base porn there is.  So,  since I cannot sit here innocently and read something educational,  or watch kitten videos or repeats of 80’s television or even a romantic comedy I have probably seen a hundred times….  I will go back and read some more poorly written, DENSI porn.   Shhhhh…  don’t tell them though,  the web nanny will take it away.

Annual Meeting

Today I attended the annual meeting for the Girl Scouts of Maine.  I go almost every year and have served as the delegate from SinCA (my region of Girl Scouts) for most of the years I have gone.  I enjoy the meeting each year and it is never as boring as it might sound to some.

The day starts early (for me) since the gathering generally starts around 9AM and the meeting is held in Waterville.  I have attended meetings at other locations, but it has been at the Waterville Elks Club for the past few years.  Waterville works nicely because Girl Scout volunteers, board members and staff from all over the state attend the meeting and they try to hold it in a central location (Geographically that would be Milo, but Waterville is just SO much more central in reality.)  The elks club has a nice huge room to accommodate the large turn-out, it works, so they stick with it.

Every year, a centrally located service unit (region of Girl Scouts) hosts the event.   This year’s meeting was hosted by the Chickadee Service Unit and they did a nice job.   The hosting unit is charged with decorating, having SWAPS (hand-made trinkets) and doing the opening and closing flag ceremonies.    The tables were all adorned with centerpieces consisting of flowers made from spray painted bottle caps on dowels…  they were cute and everyone attending had one to take home.  They also did a very nice flag ceremony and just about every adult in the room held their breath as the girls walked the flags past two chandeliers -  without incident.

The actually meeting part of the annual meeting is generally brief and painless.  The biggest duty of a delegate is to vote in new board members and give the final vote on any amendments to the policies.  It is the policy for the nomination committee to present a single slate of officers and new board members for the delegates to approve.  It seems kind of pointless, but it does make sense.  If we had to select from candidates there would have to be way more prep time, time for delegates to study their choices  etc.  as it is, the nomination committee seeks out interest and qualified candidates, researches them and decides who should be on the board.  The delegate vote is simply a formality at this point.  The amendments can be different, discussion is possible, though it is generally past the point of really requiring further discussion.  As with the vote most years, everything passed unanimously.

Each year at the annual meeting the graduating seniors in attendance are recognized and the bridge to adult ceremony is performed.  They were 27 graduating seniors there and about 90 this year state wide.  It seems like a high number, I hope it means girls are staying in scouts longer.  Adult recognitions were next -  they give numerals and awards for those celebrating more than 25 years, in 5 year increments.  Then they also award a handful of outstanding volunteers.  They did a nice job this year presenting awards without putting the audience to sleep.  Some years it goes a bit long,  this year we were actually ahead of schedule.

Things were running so far ahead of schedule they moved several things up on the agenda and we still had to socialize for 25 minutes while they finished preparing for lunch. Dessert was actually served while waited.  Cake.  Yumm.    Lunch was served buffet style.  Garden salad, bow tie pasta salad, green beans, tiny baby carrots, pasta primavera, fried chicken and rolls all lined four different buffet lines so nobody had to wait too long.  We were sent up by table and things ran very smoothly.   It was all delicious.

Things wrapped up rather quickly after lunch. A beautiful poem about Girl Scouting in 1956 was read and the election results were announced.  Overall it was a very pleasant meeting.  I bought a few things at the travel Girl Scout shop (including another tote bad)  and we all received a six pack of commemorative 100 year Girl Scout glass Coke bottles to take home.  More Collectibles!  -  just what I need…  J

I look forward to attending next year’s meeting.  These kind of things help renew my energy towards making Girl Scouts stronger in our area.

Dog attack :(

Terrible story today about a 3 year old girl in Farmingdale who was mauled by a 100 lb rottweiler.  My first thought when I read the headline was 'thank God it wasn't a pitbull!'   It is a tragedy no matter what breed the dog was; a dog is dead (shot and killed by an officer responding to the scene) and a little girl is in the Shriner's hospital with head injuries, several surgeries ahead of her and a long recovery.  A grandmother will never be able to forget the images that the event has burned into her head.  Apparently she threw herself over the girl to protect her from the dog after the initial attack.

So,  what happened?  It seems that the dog was chained to the side of a barn, wearing a choke chain.  The girl wandered into his area and was attacked.  The dog's collar then broke and he was able to continue the assault on the girl and her grandmother who had stepped in.   EMTs then responded to the scene and the dog was so aggressive that responders could not treat the child.  The dog was then shot and killed by a police officer.

Who is at fault?  The dog?  The child?   In my opinion there are couple of people at fault and none of them are the dog or the child.   The idiot who treated this dog so poorly as to chain him outside by a choke chain in an area that a child could wander into is the biggest one at fault.  Aggressive dogs should be contained in a fence that keeps others out of the dog's range.  Chains do nothing to protect others from a potentially dangerous dog.  Also, if you have an aggressive dog,  why would you add to the aggression by using a choke chain?  Choke chains (I prefer the term walking collar)  have their uses, and I don't deny using them; however, they ONLY belong on a dog when the other end is attached to a leash being held by a human.   A walking collar has nothing to stop it from tightening around a dog's neck, causing discomfort, possibly pain and eventually stopping the dog from being able to breathe.  All of these things could INCREASE a dog's natural tendency toward aggressive behavior.   NEVER EVER should a dog be hooked to an immobile object by a 'choke collar', nylon or chain.   It is cruelty and neglect and is unacceptable.   The dog here never had a chance.

The next one I would hold at fault here is the adult who was responsible for the child.   A three year old should not be allowed to wander into the area of a dangerous dog.  A dangerous dog in this scenario would be ANY DOG.  People need to realize that ANY dog with teeth is a potential danger to a small child.  Dogs do not always see children as they would other humans.   Often dogs, even 'nice dogs', see children as threats or as lower beings that need discipline (a nip or bite) either view can cause a small child to get bitten or even seriously injured.     I do understand though, sometimes 3 year olds get away from you and bad things happen.  This is what happened here...  so sad.

My children grew up with a couple of very large German Shepherds.  My family was always convinced that dogs were going to eat the babies.  They never did.  My dogs were taught from the start that the children out ranked them.  My kids hand fed the dogs, placed them in their crates (or helped).  But, most importantly, the children and the dogs were always supervised whenever they were together.

Title? who needs a title?

In the interest of blogging as often as I can, I  am writing this even though I still have not come up with that Earth shattering topic that will change the face of the planet as we know it and cause millions of readers to flock to my blog for daily enlightenment.  I guess I should have known when I called "Boring Blog"  - oh well.

Today was writing group and I got a little more written in Prophecy Poem.  6 stanzas in chapter 3.   I just need a plot and I will be on fire!  Right now it could still be "Willow" and I am determined NOT to write "Willow."  I also got a little further in my novel.  I am about half way through chapter 28 now.  I know I said I was going to finish chapter 28 a few days ago, but it is slow going.  I just chip away at it, little by little.  I know one of these days the muse will return and it will get finished.   I also worked a bit on my new short story about a surfer who finds that he can breathe under water.  It is different than anything I have ever written before.

My goals for tomorrow (later today)....  continue to work on cleaning out the van,  take my Dad out for his birthday lunch,  select 4 things to take to Good Will  -and try like heck not eat and drink everything in sight! I am WAY over my dry weight and I am hoping to catch up at dialysis tomorrow night.

This is all I can come up with for now...  comment with topics, writing ideas...  ANYTHING!

Boring Post....

I want to write this blog and I have been trying to come up with a solid topic to write about.   I thought about writing about how cute my cat is, but that is what instagram and tumblr are for.  He is cute though.

Then I thought I could tell a story about my kids, but, truth is, they aren’t very interesting.  Oh,  my daughter slept til noon today, then she, then read a book…  woopty doo.  BTW,  my husband is boring too.

I could discuss my experiences as a struggling writer…   I did send another submission to a literary agent last night.  This time a Ms. Hawk at the Bent Agency.  We’ll see what she has to say.  According to their website, they reply either way;  which is nice after waiting with no word from the last two places.

There is always poetry, I could write more poetry to this blog….

Blogs should be interesting and well thought out
Not boring and depressing- that’s not what they’re about
I want to write something everyone will enjoy
A good blog is like Slinky, fun for a girl or a boy
Movie reviews and thoughts for the day
Parenting tips, crafts and creative ways to play
Traveling journals and photos galore
No a blog should ever be a grueling chore
So I write here in Boring Blog of my daily strife
My thoughts, my hopes and in general, my life
I hope readers will read, but if not, you see
It’s OK, I really only write this blog for me.

I had to turn off the TV for the afternoon.  The Boston Marathon was bombed today and it is overwhelming for me to think about.  I have several friends and possibly family near the area.  Everyone is OK as far as I know (thank God for Facebook) but it is still just way too close to home.   My prayers for all those involved, those injured, their families, those who witnessed it and those who responded.  I hope it serves to bring our communities together once again and makes us just a bit stronger.  I also am reminded that there are places in our world that go through things like this on a much more regular basis.  They live day to day not knowing where or when the next bomb will take someone away from them…  it is humbling.

Please leave a comment and let me know what topics I should blog about in the future...

Till next time… write on…

I can Blerg too :P

OK,  I am blogging again.  I need to write and I need to start getting in the habit of writing daily.    I know I have said it before and will, I am sure, say it again in the future.   I am going to do my best to stay current and blog frequently.

Here goes:    Lately I have been having a hard time getting past my current novel’s chapter 27.  I am at a point in the novel where I really need to just get it written and done so I can move on to other projects.  Some of the best advice to writers I have ever read was ‘don’t get it right, get it written.’  I have no idea who said it originally, but I like it.  So, today I am writing chapter 28, no matter what.  It may stink, but it really can’t stink more than the 20 or so chapters I wrote at break neck speeds during Nanowrimo.

National Novel Writing Month… otherwise known as Nanowrimo is in November.  Brought to you by the Office of Letters and Light and information can be found at Nanowrimo.org.    Nano is when novelists, of all levels, pledge to write a novel of 50,000 words within the month of November.  No one ever has to read said novel, and that is probably for the best.  I love Nanowrimo because it encourages me to just write.  Write without editing.  It easier said than done and I do not claim to have perfected it.  I cannot help but correct typos (that I notice) and fix misspellings as I go.   I do, however, leave the real edits for later.  Sometimes, come December, when I look back to what I wrote, it isn't pretty, but it is written.   I then have a baseline from which to build a better crafted story.

Often the dialogue I write quickly, without over thinking it, is the most natural dialogue I ever write.  Dialogue is not usually well thought out in the real world.  Very few people think before they speak.  A lot of dialogue is reactionary and tends to flow quickly in reality and I find that the less I think about it as I write, the more natural the conversation between characters feels.

The other parts of my story written during November tend to need a lot of polishing.  I promise you, I know the difference between their and they’re, and too, to or two.  It is funny how, when typing at top speeds, these things tend to mix themselves up on the paper.  Another problem is that I tend to think I typed one thing when I actually typed something different or left out an important word altogether.  It is not until I go back and try to decipher November’s work that I find all the misfirings of my brain. Interesting how it all seemed good when I typed it; someone must be going into my files and messing with me!

My intention is to write in my blog every week and update all my wonderful readers on all that I have written since my last post…  I hope you both enjoy it!

ALSO:  Boring blog will be the only blog I attempt to write in.  Might as well have 1 general blog where I can blog about any topic and be free to just ramble.
