I really don't mind product placement in my shows. In fact, 'Chuck' took product placement to new heights with their silly Subway sandwiches and car commercials within a scene... I found it entertaining. I don't mind when Eric Beal whips out his brand new MS tablet and slowly attaches the keyboard and shows off the easy Windows8 interface. The shiny new car that the guys on 'Hawaii 5-O' can't stop talking about... entertains me. I like to see real cereal boxes on the set of 'Big Bang,' and they they might as well have brand named soda on 'Two and Half Men'... but, if the show is going to be ripe with brand names and glowing reviews, why does it also have to be heavy on commercials? I would actually prefer that they integrate their sponsor's products right into the programs and stop interrupting the show every ten minutes to show us another lame commercial. This would also be beneficial to the companies that pay tons of money to be included in these shows. Let's face it, with our DVR's and internet viewing, no one is watching commercials anymore. They are simply forwarded over, or used as a bathroom or snack break. If on the other hand, the deodorant was advertised while we watched Deeks take a quick shower and freshen up, you can bet I will be paying attention and my husband would be wearing that brand by 5 o'clock the next afternoon. I think the powers that be should consider it!
Until next time... write on!
